On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Institute for Comparative Law will hold a lecture by the Italian comparative law expert Professor Enrico Toti on the topic “Understanding Chinese Law as a System: History, Method and the Relationship between Law, State and Economy”. The lecture will be held in the conference hall of the Institute for Comparative Law, Terazije 41, starting at 1 p.m.

 

Enrico Toti is an expert in comparative law and a specialist in the law of the People’s Republic of China and an expert in the Chinese language and Chinese legal culture. In the past twenty-five years, he has taught Chinese law, comparative law and public international law at numerous Italian universities (Roma Tre, LUISS Guido Carli, LUMSA, University of Siena, University of Macerata, University of Milan, Bocconi University and University of Rome Tor Vergata), as well as at Chinese institutions, including Beijing Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing. He has been teaching Chinese law at Roma Tre University since 2018.

 

He has been a visiting professor and lecturer on second-level postgraduate master’s programs, especially on the LUISS master’s program in business and company law – European and international perspective, where he regularly teaches modules on comparative corporate law, investments in China,, and Chinese corporate governance.

 

Along with his teaching activity, he carries out significant scientific and organizational work, promoting and coordinating numerous international conferences on Chinese law, the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China, protection of personal data, regulation of foreign investments, and the relationship between Roman law and Chinese law.

 

He has participated as a speaker at conferences and seminars in Italy, China, Europe, and the United States, including lectures at Columbia University Law School and major Chinese academic institutions.

His scientific opus is extensive and diverse. He is the author of monographs, essays, chapters in editorial books, and articles published in leading Italian and international academic journals, as well as the editor and scientific translator of numerous books on translations of Chinese legislation.

His research activity has been supported by numerous studies and research stays in China, including Beijing, Changsha, and Xi’an. In addition to scientific activity, he is also a successful lawyer.
